THE DREADED, "WHAT IF"
Written by Josh King on April 20, 2022
Woulda, coulda, shoulda - You snooze, you lose - If I could turn back time – Hindsight is 20/20 – No plan is a plan to fail, all seem like harbingers of life planning that an elder has brought up to us seemingly because they cared about our future.

It’s one of those, in one ear, out the other scenarios for many of us. I mean, who really wants to think about this stuff? Oooh, I got it! Let’s all bring a bottle of wine and talk about what we’re going to do if we have a heart attack next week! Oooh oooh, I know! Let’s just talk about what we’d all do if so and so gets killed in a car crash – NOT!

It’s the beginning of the dreaded “what if” conversation that many never care to explore. Understandably so. Others seem to get it and do something about it. This is just a choice. A choice that takes a little bravery to confront and a little bit more to make that click for a conversation with me. But, guess what? Boring was never how I was described behind the bar, or at a table in my F&B years and I don’t plan on going there now!

Yes, these are very serious topics, but so is selling 7g of white truffles from Alba, Italy to a restaurant guest turning their $28 pasta dish into a $100 one! Convincing a repeat guest that the reserve option from a prestigious winery that’s triple the price is a better decision for tonight’s meal while being sure not to gouge and have them back next week ready for more is…. Serious business. Enjoying a rare and distinct cognac at the bar is a “wonderful idea sir and yes, it’s $250 a serving, you’ll love it”!

These are all serious conversations pitched in a light of fine dining fun. A sort of adventure of the senses that’s exciting to certain kinds of people. People like us! Was that so bad? You see, I’ve changed my conversation from selling culinary adventures to ways to lift up my peers in the food and beverage industry from a financial perspective.

What I do is not for all of us but by golly, how is putting in place a little something that will protect you and your families (if you have one) financial health such a bad idea? It’s not! You’ve just been exposed to lower quality ingredients masquerading as being respectable. Anyway, from beginning to end I want this to be as painless as a process for you as possible and I have done my homework to make sure that happens. Nothing is perfect as we all know but, striving for perfection in all we do is our way of life here at Translucent Financial Services.
So I humbly ask of you, trust my process, most of what I’ll need from you will be easily done before we ever meet online and then, we’ll just put a plan in place that’s as solid as the best dish you’ve ever tasted is. I pledge that to you and welcome your feedback! Perhaps over a glass of wine at the proper time.

Salud!

I am an alumni if you will, of fine dining. I worked in various multiple Michelin, Forbes 5 starred restaurants over the years and now, I want to share ways for F&B professionals to create a nice retirement that follows them no matter where they work, so that they can put the corkscrew down sooner than later, sit, relax and enjoy the atmosphere for themselves.
